Avenue of Flags

The Avenue of Flags was started as an Eagle Scout project by local Boy Scout, Michael Perrett who enlisted the help of the Post 225 American Legion.  Flags were sold in honor of military veterans with connections to Holstein. Each flag pole is labeled with the veteran's name, rank, branch of service and military period or campaigns served in. Each 5' x 8' is mounted on a galvanized aluminum flagpole standing 18' above ground.  Flagpoles were spaced twenty feet apart.

267 flags went up along the south edge of town on S. Kiel St. in May 2012.  This patriotic memorial for veterans has been overwhelmingly received. May 2015 there were 390 flags saluting our veterans.  In June 2018 there are 449 flags. These flags are raised and lowered by dedicated Legion members and community volunteers each Memorial Day, Kinderfest, 4th of July and Veterans Day and other special occasions, weather permitting.

Each flagpole is labeled with the veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, and the military period or campaigns served in. The cost for each flag set is $175.00.
